B and C Races
t’s hard to believe we’re already in June. With race season in full swing, many of you have events coming up soon. Whether you're participating in shorter training races or preparing for your "A" race, these opportunities are essential and shouldn’t be underestimated.
Training races are incredibly valuable for testing and refining your approach. Use them to:
Practice packing your kit bag – Consider making a list or taking a photo of your gear. This will make packing easier and more efficient for future races.
Review your nutrition plan – After each race, take a moment to jot down what you ate and drank before, during, and after. Note what worked and what didn’t, while it’s still fresh. These insights are critical for fine-tuning your plan for race day.
Evaluate your gear – Did your clothing, accessories (e.g., goggles, sunglasses), and bike equipment meet your needs? Is your bike set up for comfort and performance? Make adjustments now to avoid surprises later
Rehearse the race process – Use training races to practice racking your bike, lining up at the start, swim starts, and transitions. These details can boost your confidence and help you shave off valuable time.
It’s also normal to have a race that doesn’t go as planned—due to weather, equipment issues, or other factors beyond your control. It’s okay to feel frustrated, but remember these races often teach us the most. Take what you’ve learned and use it to strengthen your next performance. The biggest breakthroughs often follow tough moments.
Finally, not every race needs to be an all-out effort or a shot at a PB—especially if it's a tune-up event or your A race is just around the corner. Pushing too hard too soon increases the risk of injury. Be intentional. Ask yourself: Is this a performance race, or is it a rehearsal?
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Happy training!
